Watching the close, door-to-door action of the BTCC was a large influence on MPS Director Ben Newman’s development of a passion for Motorsport and therefore he was delighted to be asked by TPR to provide Systems & Data Engineering services for their 2017 entry into the championship with their ex-Motorbase Ford Focus NGTC car with former BTCC Race Winner Stephen Jelley’s return to the UK’s premier Tin Top race series.

With an involvement in the development of the all Cosworth Electronics electronics package that is mandated for use in the NGTC cars whilst he was working for Cosworth, before starting MPS, the control and data systems are something that MPS have a great deal of experience with.

Responsible for developing and maintaining the calibration of the data logger and dash display devices using the Pi Toolset software and then analysing this logged data in the Pi Toolbox analysis software to improve both car and driver performance on track.

Learning to race front wheel drive and returning to the ultra competitive series meant there was a steep learning curve for both driver and team but progress was good throughout the season, regularly challenging the Top 10.
